The club has a tradition of holding a tournament for members on the morning of the last day of the Wimbledon championships, which is guaranteed to finish in time for us to get home to watch the men’s singles final in the afternoon. This year, as it was so hot on the big day, our tournament was postponed to Sunday 19th July, when the weather was far cooler with the bonus of a few drops of rain!
Sixteen members took part in a doubles competition which consisted of 10 minute tie-breaks. For each round of matches, each player scored the number of points that his or her partnership had accumulated. Players played with different partners each round.
The tournament was won by Sam Tucker with 60 points, Ruth Cornish was second with 55 points and Richard Rodda third with 54 points.
