Launceston Tennis Club
Finals Day - Sunday 2nd September 2007
Mens Singles ("Battle of the Brothers")
- Defending champ Graham, hampered with a back injury, put up a big fight to hold onto his title.
Kevin eventually came out on top though after 3 gruelling sets to win the Mens Singles trophy.
- Result: Kevin Worth bt. Graham Worth 6-4,6-7,6-2
Ladies Singles
- Ruth put up an excellent effort throughout the first set, pushing Sarah all the way.
Eventually though the floodgates opened and Sarah won the last 7 games of the match to add the Ladies Singles title
to the Mixed Doubles and Ladies Doubles crowns secured in the previous 3 weeks.
- Result: Sarah Statton bt. Ruth Cornish 6-4, 6-0.
Boys Singles ("Battle of the Brothers mk.2")
- After dropping the first set, Dan eventually wore down his younger brother Kevin to win in 3 very long sets.
The match lasted over 2 hours in total.
- Result: Dan O'Donovan bt. Kevin O'Donovan 1-6, 7-5, 6-2
Girls Singles
- Despite flashes of brilliance from Abby, Hayley's power and consistency gave her a comfortable victory.
- Result: Hayley Frayn bt. Abby Logg 6-0, 6-0.
Mens Plate
- David gained revenge for a narrow loss to Dan in a marathon Boys semi final played in the morning.
Tiredness and David's consistent play eventually proved too much for Dan - 6 hours of tennis in 1 day is too much even for a 17 year old!
- Result: David Forshaw bt. Dan O'Donovan 6-1, 7-5.
Ladies Plate
- Sarah put in a very creditable performance but Helen eventually came out on top in a close match.
- Result: Helen Davies bt. Sarah Cooke 6-3, 6-4.
